The most accurate learning resources I have used for preparing for CompTIA exams are the practice exam software that has questions worded in the same manner as the actual exam. Coincidentally, I only used this software in my last couple days before my exam and scored around 75%. As a result I failed.
One thing I found that I didn't pay too much attention to before was the exam resource has pdf's containg its own chapters on the subject matter and it is helping tremendously. Currently I would read the primary text based resource, kick back with the Learnkey videos, spend a couple days on the exams and test. Now I will pay much more attention to the exam software and its subsequent chapters.
I don't think my failure was related to a lack of knowlege as much as insufficient practice with the wording of exam questions. So I am going to tweak the learning resources and try again. My advice to WGU students is to make use of the community and learn what is working for others; they'll state the learning resources they used and which ones they felt were the most beneficial. If multiple students who passed all used one particular resource, you can be confident it will help you.
I'll be glad to get Security+ out of the way.
thank you for blogging about your experience at WGU. I have a few questions though. I read your blog about INT 1. And i just want to confirm something. In order to pass INT1,2, and 3, which items are imperative for me to study? I am truly over my head it work outside of WGU, but I've passed two courses so far and INT1 and WFV1(science course) are next. I need to pass both of these courses asap but i wanted to make sure i'm ONLY spending time on the resources that will help me pass these tests. Thank you Mr. x. ReplyDeleteI haven't taken INT1 yet but WFV1 is for the CIW Associates cert. I think it has 70 questions and covers quite a bit of ground. The best way I can describe it is a mixture of things you'll find on A+ (Essentials), Net+, Project+, and website programming and design such as CSS and XHTML. There was some fundamental information and some other things that were pretty difficult - you'll get four texts for this course so it won't be a complete cakewalk. The best thing to do for passing courses is to go to the community and read the threads on the subjects and tests. People will ask what learning resources are best to pass certain tests and you'll get a lot of answers. If you don't see anything just post your own question. People are really friendly and you'll probably get many responses. You can also contact the course instructors who can be reached via phone, pm, or e-mail.
